THE STEPFATHER TOUR
"The Stepfather Tour" was held at Reverb, 651 Queen St. W, Toronto, ON, on May 13, following the release of barnd new album "Stepfather/People Under The Stairs". The tour is featuring "People Under The Stairs", "Time Machine", "Gym Class Heroes", "Psalm One". Their performances were extremely high level beyond discription. 5/13に People Under The Stairs のニューアルバム「Stepfather」発売に伴って行われている「The Stepfather Tour」が「Reverb」651 Queen St. W, Toronto, ON. にて開催された。出演者は、【People Under The Stairs】、【Time Machine】、【Gym Class Heroes】、【Psalm One】といった面々。非常にハイレベルなパーフォーマンスが展開された。以下その模様。

One of the most important transportations for people here is Bus. It runs around the clock. Almost all the shops, night clubs & pub...etc, are closed at 2AM or 3AM, so that it is so hard for night people to come home without bus. In addition to that, only women can use the Request Stop System that bus drives women around their home. Great system!
トロントのダウンタウン市内、及び近郊で最も主要とされる交通機関の一つがバス。日中はもちろんのこと、何と深夜までと２４時間営業を行っている。というのも、ほとんどのお店（パブ、ナイトクラブ等）が2:00AM、3:00AMで閉店してしまうので、これを利用しない限り帰宅するのは至難の技である。それに加え、女性限定ではあるものの、行き先を指定すれば近所まで送って行ってくれるというシステムがあるのも嬉しい。
Everybody, who rides on their mountain bikes, never fail to use this bike-stop. If you keep away without locking your bike with the stop, you must have your bike stolen. It is more dangerous here than that in Tokyo.
誰もがマウンテンバイクのこちらでは、必ずこの自転車止めを使用する。ノーロックで自転車から目を離すことは、それを失うことを意味する、といっても過言ではない。東京以上に危険である。
Like this, but it is not enough to fix just tyre. Fix the body and tyre with your lock.
最悪こんなコトにも…。タイヤだけでは不安なのでボディもロックを。

Red Bull King of the Ring is battle that takes place at Sony BMG building in Toronto on Sunday, May 21, 2006. 32 of the bast B-boys from North America will battle inside a boxing ring placed outdoors under a tent in the parking lot of the historic Sony BMG building located in one of Toronto's most urban neighborhood, Parkdale.

明日、5/21にトロント市内にある「SONY BMG BUILDING」にて 1 vs 1 B-Boy Battle "King of The Ring" が開催される。今回はトロント都心の由緒ある Sony BMG building の駐車場にテントを敷設しボクシング・リングを設け、その上で北米から集まった32人のB-BOY達がバトルが繰り広げるといったスタイルをとる。

Though I had said that something were lacked, I was pretty surprised to see students attitude to "CI - Corporate Identity". That of them who were majoring in graphic design was achived in very high level. I'm sure it was the consequece that the students were taught, and was really surprised to see many books, for each student, about the design of CI. Anyway, looking back this exhibition, I couldn't help feeling a kind of anxiety about the school system that the difference of quality between a course and the others looked so obvious.
エキシビションを観て、物足りないとは言ったものの、驚いたことが一つある。それは「CI（コーポレート・アイデンティティ）」に対する姿勢である。グラフィックデザイン専攻の生徒の「CI」に対するそれは、並々ならないモノがあった。おそらく授業で徹底的に教わった結果だとは思うが、全ての生徒の作品に「CIデザイン」が組み込まれ、それが一つのブックレットになっている様には正直驚かざるを得なかった。今回のエキシビションを振り返ってみて思うことは、とにかく専攻する科によってクオリティの差が歴然としていたことに対して、この学校の教育システムに多少の不安材料を感じざるを得なかったといった点であろう。

OCAD Graduate Exhibition is door-open during May.5th-7th at Ontario College of Art & Design. You can see various kinds of art, which are drawing and painting, photography, sculpture/installation, ceramics, printmaking, jewellery, textiles, integrated media, advertising, illustration, graphic design, industrial design, and environmental design. Seeing these art works, I found that they were lacking in something or other and that quality of japanese design was higher and more sophisticated in every case (concepts, quality, composition...etc.). Simultaneously, it occured to me that, a graphic designer here saying to me before, japanese design has very high quality and originality.
Regrettably, taking pictures was prohibited in the school. To be continued...
Ontario College of Art & Design にて5/5〜7の日程で卒業作品展が一般公開されている。様々なジャンル（造形、ファッション、グラフィック、写真、映像等）の作品を見ることができるわけだが、作品全体を通して感じた印象としては「何か物足りない…」。コンセプト、クオリティ、構成と言った全ての面において、日本のデザインレベルの方が高い次元で実現されているように思える。同時に、以前こちらのグラフィックデザイナーが、日本のクオリティの高さについて賛美していたことをつい思い出した。
残念なことに会場内は全て撮影禁止でした。続きはまた後日… 。
